Omninetwork became Nomina, whose terminal compares funding spreads and coordinates paired trades
Last updated -
Omninetwork became Nomina, whose terminal compares funding rates and coordinates paired perpetual futures trades across integrated decentralized exchanges. Its documented exchange set includes Extended, Lighter and Hyperliquid. A funding spread measures the difference between rates for comparable exposure over the same period. That comparison helps distinguish a potential funding receipt from the cost of holding the opposite position. Position matching and actual execution determine how closely the paired trade follows the intended funding relationship.
Trading costs can exceed a paired position's net funding receipts even when its long and short exposures match.
Rate Direction Sets the Paired Trade
When the same crypto asset has different funding rates across integrated venues, the rate direction determines which side pays and which side receives funding.
Long and Short Funding
Funding is a recurring payment between perpetual futures traders. A perpetual contract has no scheduled expiry, and funding helps keep its price near the underlying asset. Hyperliquid and Extended apply the familiar convention: positive funding means longs pay shorts, and negative funding reverses that direction. A rate spread therefore needs a sign and a holding period to describe the intended trade.
A Common Comparison Period
Rates must describe the same duration before subtraction gives a meaningful spread. Hyperliquid pays funding hourly, using one eighth of its calculated eight-hour rate. Extended also applies hourly funding, with its crypto order book methodology expressed on an eight-hour basis. An hourly payment rate and an annualized display represent different scales. Neither establishes the rate throughout a future holding period.
Hyperliquid and Lighter as the Earlier Pair
Before Extended's November 2025 integration, Nomina compared funding opportunities across Hyperliquid and Lighter. This pairing joined opposing perpetual positions across the existing exchange integrations. Separate exchange tabs required manual rate comparisons and position sizing; Nomina brought those tasks into a shared interface. Either venue could supply the long or short side as the relevant funding relationship changed.
Extended Adds Another Set of Spreads
Extended broadened the venue combinations Nomina could compare for the same underlying asset. Nomina announced Extended as its third perpetual futures decentralized exchange integration on November 19, 2025. That release described pairings between Extended and either Hyperliquid or Lighter. Extended could provide the long or short position, depending on the selected spread.
The additional venue expands the candidate pairings without establishing a permanent funding advantage for Extended. Existing Hyperliquid and Lighter spreads remain part of the comparison. A useful Extended pairing requires a suitable market on both selected venues, along with funding and execution conditions appropriate to the position.
Matched Exposure and Order Settings
A potential funding advantage translates into the intended paired position only when the underlying exposure matches and the order instructions reflect that plan.
Position Size and Leverage
Nomina lets users specify position size and leverage. Delta neutral describes opposing exposures designed to offset sensitivity to the asset's price. Equal collateral deposits do not necessarily create equal exposure, especially when leverage differs. The relevant comparison concerns the positions the contracts represent, including their actual filled quantities.
The Value Used for Funding
Funding scales with notional, the position value to which the payment rate applies. Hyperliquid uses its spot oracle price to convert position size into notional value for funding payments. Extended uses position size multiplied by mark price. An oracle supplies a reference price; a mark price values an open position. Matching asset quantities therefore does not automatically produce identical funding values across venues.
Opening and Closing Instructions
Nomina's documented controls include market and limit instructions for opening and closing positions. Each leg is an individual long or short position. A limit price constrains acceptable execution, while an unfilled instruction leaves the intended exposure unestablished. Coordination concerns these separate legs; actual fills determine the hedge in place.
When Does a Paired Trade Receive Net Funding?
A paired trade receives net funding when its funding credits exceed its debits across the settlement periods being compared.
In this hypothetical comparison, opposing positions track the same crypto asset on Extended and Hyperliquid. Assume matched exposure, a funding notional of $8,732 on each venue and both positions open at their hourly settlements. Extended's applied hourly rate is 0.0062%, and Hyperliquid's is 0.0091%.
A Hyperliquid short receives approximately $0.79 in funding value, while an Extended long pays approximately $0.54. The difference is approximately $0.25 before trading fees and changes in position value.
Reversing those positions reverses the funding cash flows. The Hyperliquid long pays the larger amount, so the pair incurs approximately $0.25 in net funding cost.
This comparison holds for the stated applied rates and funding values at those settlements. Different reference prices, changed positions or revised rates change the calculation. Entry and exit costs can exceed the positive funding difference.
Dashboard Monitoring After Execution
If the spread changes after entry, the original comparison stops describing the trade's ongoing funding economics. Nomina's dashboard tracks both legs after execution, including profit and loss, commonly abbreviated PnL. It also monitors the funding spread and provides alerts when it moves significantly. An opening rate remains separate from the funding payments the venues subsequently apply.
A displayed profit estimate and a settled funding credit answer different questions. Applied funding records establish the payment for each leg. Changes in the price difference between venues can also affect the combined position, even when matching longs and shorts reduce shared price exposure.
Terminal Access After Omni Core's Closure
Nomina's terminal is the relevant interface for funding spreads after Omni Core's closure. The project reported the original chain's February 17, 2026 shutdown in its February 23 announcement. Funding-spread trades concern exchange positions; token migration concerns the project's token holdings. The November 2025 Extended release described beta testers and waitlist selection. Its account-linking instructions applied to users with terminal access; that release did not promise universal onboarding.
Trading Costs and Separate Margin Requirements
Recurring funding and execution charges affect the return over different timescales. Each leg has opening and closing prices and any applicable trading fees. Hyperliquid distinguishes maker and taker pricing, with fees also depending on the applicable account tier and market. A rate per funding period cannot describe net trading profit without a holding period and the position's price PnL.
Extended makes an account subject to liquidation when its equity falls below its maintenance margin requirement. That test concerns the account holding the Extended position. Nomina's common dashboard concentrates spread comparison and paired-position monitoring; using separate exchange interfaces leaves those coordination tasks with the trader. The selected venues' settlement and collateral rules continue to govern the underlying positions.
Helpful answers about Omninetwork
Can Exchange Points Count as Funding Income?
Exchange points are separate from the funding payments on a perpetual position. Nomina's November 19, 2025 Extended announcement described opportunities to earn points across Extended, Lighter and Hyperliquid depending on the spreads opened. A points award does not establish the amount of funding a position receives or the redemption value of those points.
When Does Extended Omit an Hourly Funding Payment?
Extended applies hourly funding only to positions open when the payment falls due. A position closed before the charge does not participate in that payment. This rule concerns the Extended leg; it does not specify the paired venue's treatment or remove entry and exit trading costs.
Are Hyperliquid Funding Payments a Platform Commission?
Hyperliquid transfers funding between the long and short sides without collecting a fee on those transfers. These funding debits and credits are separate from applicable trading charges on opening or closing orders. A funding calculation should keep the transfer between traders distinct from the fees associated with execution.
Will a Spread Alert Close Both Positions?
A spread alert reports a funding change; position closure depends on executed exit orders. Nomina describes spread monitoring and coordinated closing capabilities, but a notification alone does not establish a fill. The remaining size of each leg determines whether the paired position has actually closed.
Does Omni's Subsecond Roadmap Guarantee Nomina Trade Speed?
Omni's December 10, 2024 subsecond roadmap concerned cross-chain interoperability, so it does not set a Nomina order-fill deadline. The roadmap distinguished messaging settlement from SolverNet's intent-execution plans. Funding trades follow the selected exchanges' execution and payment mechanics, rather than that older cross-chain latency target.
How Does Leverage Affect Funding on an Unchanged Position?
Leverage alone does not change the funding payment if position size, the applicable reference price and the funding rate remain unchanged. Increasing position size changes funding value; changing collateral allocation for an otherwise unchanged position does not enter that funding formula. A leverage setting therefore does not become an extra multiplier in the payment calculation.
